ASTM D5252 Hexapod Tumble Drum Tester FY146B is uses the mechanical action of a hexapod tumbler tester to produce change in appearance (surface structure and color) to textile floor coverings. It does not include pilling color changes due to other actions.
Attach the carpet sample to the inner wall of the drum, place a six legged test block, rotate the drum, and roll the six legged test block on the surface of the sample. After a certain number of times, evaluate the changes in the surface structure and color of the carpet.
